Black Sherif Reportedly Detained at Kotoka International Airport for Alleged Contractual Breach

Black Sherif: Arrested

On the evening of July 19, 2023, the renowned Ghanaian musician and VGMA Artiste of the Year, Mohammed Ismail Sherif Kwaku Frimpong, widely known as Black Sherif, was reportedly arrested at Kotoka International Airport (KIA).

Multiple unconfirmed reports circulating on social media suggest that the arrest was related to a contractual breach involving a show that Black Sherif failed to fulfill in Greece. According to blogger and radio host Kofi Adoma Nwanwani of Kofi TV, who confirmed the news, the incident centers around a scheduled performance in Greece on July 4.

Allegedly, Black Sherif had charged a fee of US$40,000 for the show and received half of the payment in advance. However, he was unable to fulfill his commitment and perform at the event, resulting in the client filing a complaint against him.

As a result of the contractual dispute, authorities placed Black Sherif on a stop list, preventing him from leaving the country. It's reported that he was supposed to receive the balance of the payment after completing the show.

Black Sherif had just returned from a successful European tour, where he performed at various music festivals, including the Wireless Festival and AfroNation in Portugal.

The news of his arrest has sent shockwaves through the music industry and among his fans. As one of Ghana's leading musicians, Black Sherif has garnered immense popularity for his distinctive style and captivating performances, making him one of the most sought-after artists in the country.

As the situation unfolds, further details surrounding the contractual disagreement are still emerging. Fans and industry insiders are anxiously awaiting updates on Black Sherif's status and the resolution of the issue.
